Installation Instructions

Thrust roller bearings are a type of rolling bearings used to bear axial loads. The following is the main content about them:

Structure Shaft washer:

It is matched with the shaft and usually has an inner diameter size suitable for the shaft. The raceway surface of the shaft washer contacts with the rolling elements, and its main function is to transfer the axial load on the shaft to the rolling elements.

Seat washer:

It is installed on the bearing seat or relevant components and has an outer diameter size that matches the installation part. Its raceway, together with the raceway of the shaft washer, jointly defines the movement track of the rolling elements, and it bears and transfers the axial force from the rolling elements to the support structures such as the bearing seat.

Rolling elements:

Generally in the shape of rollers, such as cylindrical rollers, tapered rollers, or spherical rollers, etc., which are located between the shaft washer and the seat washer. When the bearing is in operation, the rollers roll on the raceways of the shaft washer and the seat washer to achieve the function of bearing and transferring the axial load. The shape, size, and quantity of the rollers will be designed according to the bearing's load-carrying capacity and usage requirements.

Cage:

It evenly separates the rolling elements to prevent collisions and friction between the rollers, ensuring that each roller can share the load evenly. At the same time, it guides the rolling elements to roll correctly in the raceways, ensuring the smooth operation of the bearing. The material and structural form of the cage have an important impact on the performance and service life of the bearing. Common types include metal cages and non-metal cages.

Characteristics Advantages High load-carrying capacity:

It can bear a large axial load and is suitable for mechanical equipment that needs to bear heavy loads in the axial direction, such as cranes, rolling mills, injection molding machines, etc.

High axial stiffness:

It can provide high axial stiffness, ensuring that the shaft has a small axial displacement when bearing an axial force, thereby improving the stability and accuracy of the equipment. It is often used in occasions with high requirements for axial positioning accuracy, such as the lead screw drive system of machine tools.

Low friction coefficient:

Since it is rolling friction between the rolling elements and the raceways, the friction coefficient is relatively lower than that of sliding bearings. Less heat is generated during operation, which can effectively reduce energy consumption and improve the transmission efficiency


Precautions for Thrust Roller Bearing Installation

  1. Avoid Direct Hammering:

    • Avoid directly hammering the bearing during installation to prevent damage to the raceways or rolling elements.

    • Use dedicated installation tools or sleeves to ensure even force distribution.

  2. Correct Orientation:

    • Thrust roller bearings have tight rings and loose rings. Ensure proper orientation during installation, with the tight ring fitted to the shaft and the loose ring fitted to the housing.

  3. Fit Tolerance:

    • Ensure the dimensional tolerances of the shaft and housing bore meet design requirements to avoid excessive tightness or looseness.

    • Excessive tightness may cause inner ring deformation, while excessive looseness may cause bearing slippage.

  4. Lubricant Selection:

    • Choose the appropriate lubricant based on operating conditions (e.g., speed, temperature, load).

    • Avoid mixing lubricants from different brands.

  5. Prevent Contamination:

    • Maintain cleanliness during installation to prevent dust or contaminants from entering the bearing.

    • If the bearing is exposed to a contaminated environment, consider using seals or protective covers.

  6. Axial Clearance:

    • Check the axial clearance after installation to ensure it is within the allowable range.

    • Insufficient clearance may cause overheating, while excessive clearance may cause vibration or noise.

  7. Trial Run:

    • Conduct a trial run after installation to check for abnormal temperature, vibration, or noise.

    • If any abnormalities are detected, stop the machine immediately for inspection.
